A wrap-around garden of distinct but complementary outdoor living spaces
We designed this wrap-around garden in Crystal Palace as an extension of the house, with the statement front garden, bespoke kitchen area, patio with panoramic view and lounge fire-pit area all working as distinct but complementary spaces for outdoor living.

For the long, narrow front garden, we designed and built a rendered wall with stunning bespoke railings and matching gates. Along the perimeter, the copper half-standard Erybotria trees create a delightful impression that is both visual and fragrant. Through the gate you find beautiful shade-loving plants such as voluptuous white Hydrangea.

At the side of the house, we built a splendid bespoke outdoor kitchen with yorkstone worktops, pizza oven and grill BBQ, an external fridge, and zinc cupboards for under-counter storage. Seamless access to the indoor kitchen is provided by an adjoining door.

The exceptional patio was an engineering challenge, as the back garden had to be levelled to create a terrace, but the finished article enjoys beautiful views. Raised beds of corten steel are planted with shades of light blue (iris ‘Jane Phillips’) and orange (heuchera ‘Paprika’), while the rich copper-red bark of the multi-stem trees are a great winter foil for the evergreen foliage. Pleached magnolia trees also provide privacy.

As you move around the house, you enter a more tropical garden area with a richer and shadier feel, where you can relish the beautiful large tree ferns and lush evergreen hellebores and asplenium ferns. Here, a cantilevered bench suspended from a curved raised bed partially encircles a stunning gabion fire-pit. The surrounding foliage creates an exquisite tropical enclosed garden that is ideal for entertaining on a balmy summer’s evening.
